Francis O. Shepherd was born in Belmont county, Ohio, September 3, 1836. In 1838, his parents started for Iowa and reached St. Louis, Mo., where they remained during that winter, reaching Van Buren county in the spring of 1839, he settling with his parents near Bentonsport, which was ever afterwards his home. In early life he became a member of the M.E. church and remained a member of that organization until 1878, when he withdrew from that church and joined the Seventh Day Anventists[sic] in which faith he died Feb. 19, 1900. August 15, 1860, he was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Jane McCracken. Their marriage was blessed with six children, two sons dying in infancy, leaving one son and three daughters to mourn with their mother the loss of husband and father. A good man has has[sic] gone to his rest.
