Mary Elizabeth Doebler was born in Halifax, Dauphin county, Pa., June 11, 1819, and died at the home of her grand daughter Mrs. Perry Murphy, Vernon, Iowa, June 6, 1904, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 26 days. She came to Iowa in May, 1840, and the following spring was united in marriage to Henry Ehrman, who died in California, having gone there in the 50's, during the rush to the gold-fields. To them were given six children, three sons and three daughters. Two sons and two daughters have preceded her to their Heavenly home, leaving one son, John, of Vernon and one daughter, Mrs. Louise Dean of Smith Center, Kansas, with nine grand children and six great grand children to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother and grand mother. Mrs. Ehrman was one of the pioneer settlers of Iowa, coming here when it was a territory and sharing with her husband the hardships, also the simple pleasures of pioneer life. She was converted and joined the Methodist church when a young girl, but when she came to Iowa there was at first no church of Bentonsport. She kept her membership there until in 1882. At that time she went to keep house for her son-in-law, Rev. W.E. Patterson, after the death of his wife, her youngest daughter, and so took her letter to the Methodist church, of which church she continued a member until her death. She suffered greatly during the past winter and spring and was glad when her Heavenly Father called her home.
