ALFRED EDMUND MUSGRAVE

Alfred Edmund Musgrave was born in Little Bras D'Or, Cape Breton, Feb. 20, 1848. He was married to Janie McDonald Nov. 3, 1875. Three children were born to them; George James, John Edwin and Reta Louise. Mr. Musgrave came to the United States in 1880; and in 1886 he came to Farmington. His family joined him here during the following year. Mr. Musgrave and his family soon won the esteem of the entire community, and as the years have passed by the feeling of respect has deepened. It can be truthfully said that none knew him but to respect him. He united with the Congregational church in this city in 1894. He was a sincere man, a clean man,; he always showed a spirit of forgiveness and magnanimity that did honor to human nature. He was a man to be trusted, to be relied upon and esteemed. He possessed the greatest prudence, justice, modesty and virtue. By his cheerful, candid and uniform disposition he won the favor of everyone. For a number of years he served as Justice of the Peace and has also had charge of the telephone exchange. Mr. Musgrave was a man of quiet demeanor, of few words and large sympathies.

The funeral services conducted by Rev. G. C. Goodenough were held at the residence Tuesday at 2 p.m.

The community suffers the loss of a good citizen, a kind neighbor and a true friend.

In his home life, Mr. Musgrave was an ideal man, a tender sympathetic husband and devoted father. No task was too heavy, nor sacrifice too great for him in advancing the interests of his loved ones. And each succeeding year this affection deepened. This is the first break in the home circle and sadly will his loss be felt. The gentle wife will listen vainly for the footsteps which come no more, and for the cadence of the voice which is hushed forever. Nor will the daughter hear again the father's loving words of praise and encouragement.

Mr. Musgrave's children are all grown. They are possessed of more than ordinary ability. The sons are fine, manly young men, the pride of those who have watched them grow to manhood. The daughter is strong and brave, well able to comfort and soothe her heart-broken mother in the lonely days to come.

George James, the eldest, is a physician in Cincinnati, Iowa. Johne Edwin is a druggist in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Both were present.

Reta Louise, the youngest, is the wife of Dr. C. L. Paisley of this place. Six months ago she became a bride and the event was a joyous occasion. How different is the present home coming of the two sons.

Two sisters, also survive, Mrs. Robert Rice of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, and Mrs. Charles Hackett, Victoria, B. C. Mrs. Hackett and her daughter were here on a visit last summer and made many warm friends. The sympathy of the entire community is with the bereaved family and friends.
