Donald Duane Hughes, 65, of Mt Pleasant, formerly of Keosauqua died Monday March 4, 2013 at his home of natural causes. He was born Jan. 19, 1948 in Fairfield to Roscoe N. and Maxine Elliott Hughes, grew up in Van Buren County and graduated from Van Buren High School in 1966 and from a college in California with a Bachelor’s degree.
He had lived in California, Ft. Madison and Burlington and many years in Mt. Pleasant. He had done human services work in Ft. Madison and had been employed at the Ft. Madison and Mt. Pleasant correctional facilities. In recent years he was self-employed as a restorer and re-finisher of antique furniture and trunks.
Surviving are his mother of Keosauqua, a sister, Roxie Bollinger (Jon) of Springfield, MO, three nieces, an aunt, Edith Tweedy of Montrose, other relatives and friends. His father and a brother, Ronald “Zip” Hughes preceded him in death.
His body has been cremated. A graveside service and burial of cremains in Center Chapel Cemetery southeast of Keosauqua will be at a later date. Memorials to the family may be left at or sent to Pedrick Funeral Home at P.O. Box 513, Keosauqua, IA 52565.
