CARL ELMER GROSS.
Carl Elmer Gross the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gross of this place was born in Clark Co., Ill. Aug. 17, 1902, and departed this life after a few short hours of suffering September 7, 1903, at the home of Mr. Jake Miller near Casey, Ill., at the age of one year and 21 days. The funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 at the house conducted by Rev. Linzy of Martinsville, Ill. and the remains were laid to rest in the Barr cemetery.
He breathed his last and o'er his brow the cold damp dews are spread. His voice is hushed in silence now and he is numbered with the dead. We meet around the sacred spot where his sweet voice once charmed our ears, but, atlas [sic] we hear it not, for our little Carl is not there. He was too lonely long to stay; too fair a plant for this dark clime. He bloomed then smiled and passed away beyond the vernal parts of time, a lovely flower with sweetest charms, but for a while to us was given then passed away through deaths cold arms. Our dearest Carl now in heaven doth range.
