Neala E. Gilbert

Neala E. Gilbert, 85, of Keosauqua, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Bible Church in Douds, with the Rev. Michael Mosier officiating. Burial will be in Kilbourne Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 2-3 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, and will continue at 5 p.m. with the family present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials to Zion Bible Church or Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon may be left at either the funeral home or mailed to the family at 13730 Highway 98, Douds 52551.

Mrs. Gilbert was born Aug. 18, 1918, near Birmingham, the daughter of Neal and Elsie Bonnett Carruthers. She married Hubert G. Gilbert May 27, 1942, at Memphis, Mo. He died Dec. 22, 1988.

Mrs. Gilbert's mother died when she was an infant and she was raised by an uncle and aunt Amos and Bertha Bonnett of Birmingham. She graduated from Birmingham High School. She and her husband farmed the Gilbert Century Farm south of Kilbourne. They also raised purebred dogs. She moved to Douds in 1989 following her husband's death and entered Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua in 2002.

She was a member of Zion Bible Church in Douds.

Survivors include one daughter Betty Boyer and husband Jerry of Douds; and one grandson.
