Ira A. Perkins died at his brother's home in Pendleton, Oregon, of heart failure August 22, 1902. The deceased was born February 18, 1868, near Utica, Iowa, being at the time of his death thirty-four years, six months and four days of age.
He was the youngest son of Austin S. and Rhoda M. Perkins and grew to manhood near the place of his birth. He was united in marriage to Miss Lucy E. Doty April 4, 1894, and to this union was born one son, Roy Edman, who still survives him. He also leaves his aged mother, three brothers and one sister to mourn their loss. A father, brother and sister having preceeded [sic] him to the other shore.
Mr. Perkins was a pharmacist and for some time was employed in D. Cresap's drug store at Bonaparte, Jackson's drug store in Keosauqua, and lastly at L. C. Kieve's drug store in Keokuk. Last fall he was compelled to abandon [the] drug business on account of his health and in March went to Pendleton, Oregon, where he remained until the time [of] his death.
Ira was a kind son and loving brother always ready and willing to help lighten the burden of life. He was especially devoted to his aged mother whom he cherished so well in her declining years. In his brief life he was a student of his profession, diligent and careful, and loved to do a kindness to others.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. Bancroft of the Harrisburg church Wednesday August 27, from his mother's home in Washington Twp. The remains were laid to rest in the Dibble cemetery near by.
