Death of Capt. E. C. Pickett.

Capt. Edgar C. Pickett died at his home in Waterloo, Iowa, Tuesday, June 25, 1901. He was born in Kentucky, Aug. 20, 1834, and moved with his family to Quincy, Ill. in 1853. He was married May 27, 1858 to Miss Glorvina E. Ballard with whom he lived happily until death called her in October, 1897.

At the beginning of the Civil War, he raised a company in Ill., Co. A. 50th Vol. Inf., and entered the service as its captain.

In 1863, he was wounded and obliged to retire from the service. He then came to Bonaparte and, finding himself again able for service, organized Co. C. 8th Ia. Cav., reentered the service and continued to close of war. Capt. Pickett resided in Bonaparte until 1872 where he has since lived. Many a Bonaparte citizen will remember him well and favorably.
