Max Bloomquist

Max Bloomquist, 80, of Birmingham, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Behner Funeral Home with Jim Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.

Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Fairfield Band Boosters or to the Birmingham First Responders.

Mr. Bloomquist was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Jefferson County, the son of Lawrence Jay and Helen Irene Keller Bagby. He married Vivian Wiseman Dec. 19, 1942 in Kahoka, Mo.

He was a lifelong resident in resident in the Birmingham and Fairfield communities. He was a foreman for the American Natural Resources Natural Gas Pipeline for 28 years. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of Birmingham; three sons, Butch Bloomquist of Fairfield, Ron Bloomquist of Birmingham and Lonnie Bloomquist of Cedar Rapids; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Beverly Johnston and an infant daughter, Caren Bloomquist.
