Berdott A. Grubbs, 95, of Douds died at 3:40 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Connie Markle officiating. Burial will be in Leando Cemetery.
Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeal Home in Douds. The family will be present from 7-8 p.m. today. Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church or Douds Fire Department may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 14898 Clay St., Douds 52551.
Mr. Grubbs was born Nov. 18, 1905, in Leando, the son of Robert A. and Blanche Bish Grubbs. He married Hazel Hewitt Aug. 23, 1928. She died July 21, 1963.
He graduated from Douds-Leando High School in 1924, operated a dairy, and worked as a meat cutter at Barker Mercantile in Douds for 50 years. After his wife's death he cared for her mother, Edith Hewitt Plowman until her death.
He was a long time member of Christ United Methodist Church and Sunday school and served many years on the church board. He had been active in Douds Field Day, the fire department, the community club and Boy Scouts.
Survivors include one son, Gary of Douds; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he preceded in death by one brother, Glenn.
