Death of E.B. Kirkendall.
Elijah B. Kirkendall died Dec. 31, 1914, at his home in Douds after a short illness. He was born near Hobinsville, Ind., in 1834, and moved to Iowa in 1846, with his parents and settled on a farm north of Douds, known as the Owen Nutt farm, Apr. 12, 1861. He was married to Elizabeth Frazee, who survives him and moved to Kansas, settling near Emporia, where he lived until 1865 when they returned to Van Buren county and located on a farm below Douds about 3 miles on the south bank of the Des Moines river, where they resided over 40 years, moving to Douds about 4 years ago.
The county lost one of her most prominent citizens by his death, he was leader in the church and he had held many places of trust. he was president of the Iowa Savings Bank at Douds and had been county surveyor of Van Buren county for many years.
He leaves his aged wife, two sons and two daughters, and several grandchildren to mourn his loss.
