Obituary of Edward V. Kerr.
EDWARD V. KEBR(sp) was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, March 20, 1857, and departed this life March 14, 1918, aged 60 years, 11 months and 24 days.
On June 14, 1883, he was united in marriage to Anna C. Nickel. To this union was born one son, Ira C. There is left to mourn his departure his devoted and sorrowing wife, one son, one daughter-in-law and one grandson; two brothers, George of Keosauqua, and Joe of Douds; besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
His entire life has been spent in this community, where he was born and grew to manhood. He lived a quiet and peaceful life and was universally respected by all who knew him.
He had been in failing health for the past ten months, which time he has been an intense sufferer, not withstanding his family and friends hoped for his recovery until death relieved him of his suffering.
On Sunday, the 17th, a short service was held at the home, and the funeral service was held at 2:30 o'clock at the Zion Lutheran church, near Douds, an unusually large concourse of people being present to pay their last sad respect to a neighbor and friend. The service was conducted by Rev. Carl Sundburg of Ottumwa, his discourse being "Life and Death." The mixed choir sang familiar and appropriate selections. The boyd was interred in the cemetery adjoining the church.
