Iowa in (rest of line missing)..and was wounded at (missing) ... he was transferred to the Atla___ (cam)paign and was captured. He was (an) inmate of Andersonville prison for two months; at Charleston, S.C., for one week and at Florence for four months. He was paroled at Richmond in February, 1865, and discharged on May 30, 1865, at Columbus, Ohio.

He was married to Mary Elizabeth Lazenby, on April 13th, 1865, while at home on sick leave. Mrs. Lucas died in this city on April 26th, 1919. Eight children survive: Major E.E. Lucas, of Des Moines; Mrs. Alice Fairchild, of Hillsboro; W.T. Lucas, of Rupert, Idaho; Mrs. Laura Powellson, of Cleve(land)...(line not readable)...Mrs. A.J. Oberg, of this city; Mrs. Fay Landis, of Elkart, Ind., and Dr. F.N. Lucas, of Fairfield. There are also seven grandchildren.

He passed the major portion of his life on a farm near Hillsboro, later on near this city, when in March, 1892, he moved into town, where he made his home until his death.

Mr. Lucas was a prime mover in the first school district of this city; politically, he was a Republican; fraternally, a G.A.R. and a K. of P.; religiously, a member of the Christian church.

The funeral servies will be held this afternoon at the Christian church in charge of Elder Putnam, of Ottumwa, and Funeral Director Davidson, with interment at Spencer cemetery with full military honors accorded the remains at the grave. The services are to start a the church at 2:00 o'clock.
