Death of Mrs. George Ellis

Mrs Ruth An Gale was born in Posey county, Indiana, Jany [sic] 18, 1830, and came to Van Buren, Iowa, in 1838 with her parents, where she was married to George Ellis March 31, 1850, making her home on a farm in Vernon township until about 20 years ago when they moved to Keosauqua, where the husband died a little over two years since. A short time afterwards Mrs. Ellis moved to Mouton, accompanied by Miss Anna Glover, who had made her home with Mrs. Ellis and husband during their residence in Keosauqua. She united with the Christian church many years ago and was always a faithful member. No children were born to her. She had been apparently in excellent health until Feb. 6, when at the breakfast table, while laughing and talking with Miss Glover, and a visiting friend Mrs. Oliver Sargeant, of Van Buren county, a stroke of paralysis came and she would have fallen to the floor had not her company caught her. She never regained consciousness. Death came three days later, Feb. 9, 1912, her age being 82 years and 22 days. She was a good woman, loved by all who knew her. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Col. West and brother Joseph W. Gale, both of Moulton. Several nephews and nieces survive. Funeral services were held at the residence of the deceased in Moulton and the body was brought to Keosauqua Monday of this week where brief services were held at the Russell House, Rev. J. W. Chaney in charge. The burial was at the side of her husband at the Purdom cemetery.
