Death of Abigail Glauque

Abigail Anderson was born in Somerset, Penn., March 17, 1821 and died at her home in Birmingham, Monday morning June 21, 1909, aged 88 years, 3 months and 4 days.

At the age of nine years she emigrated with her parents to Holmes county, Ohio, where she was united in marriage to Charles Glauque, March 18th, 1841. Eleven children was the result of this union, six of whom are living, Alfred T. at York, Neb., James at Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Lizzie Huston at Detroit, Mich., Alanzo at Detroit, and Miss Fala at home, who in company with Mrs. Huston have given their mother every care during her illness. Those who preceded her are Mrs. Mary Prewitt, Mrs. Ellen Bechter, Mrs. Emma Work and Wesley.

In company with her husband she came to Iowa in 1854 settling three miles east of town where she continued to reside until after his death, which occurred in September 189?, when she moved to town and with her daughter kept house.

She was converted at the age of 18 years and for the past seventy years has been a consistent member of the Methodist church.

Though gradually becoming feeble as the years rolled on, it was not until March last, that she was compelled to give up many of her household duties owing to an attack of grippe, and since then her decline has been gradual but sure, and about 6 o’clock Monday morning the soul of this kind and affectionate mother and neighbor took its flight to meet the husband and children who were awaiting her on the other shore, and while those left behind mourn her departure a happy throng will be greeting her over there where there is no sickness and sorrow.

In addition to those near relatives mentioned above she leaves one brother Foster Anderson of this place, forty-four grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren. The oldest great-grandchild being 20 years of age.

The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock and will be in charge of Rev. Nash.
