BETTENDORF — Wanda Clarke, 88, of Bettendorf, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at her home.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at 1 p.m. at The Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the service at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to The Friendly House or Cedar Memorial Christian Church. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.
Wanda was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Bentonsport, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Edith (Oosthoek) Cox. She married John Cone in 1942. She later married Robert Clarke in 1970. Both husbands preceded her in death. She had a special friend, Robert Varney, who also preceded her in death.
She spent many years as a farm wife in Van Buren County, Iowa, and later worked for many years in the post office section at Schlegal Drug Store and its successor companies in Davenport until her retirement.
Wanda enjoyed bowling, playing cards on Monday afternoons, watching the Hawkeyes, camping, going to Arizona in the winter and gardening (especially roses). Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was an active member of Cedar Memorial Christian Church in Davenport.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Darlene (Doyle) Mincks, Rock Island; son, Peter (Teresa) Cone, Silvis; stepchildren, Pat (Jack) Lowry, Bettendorf, and Denise Wright, New Windsor, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Willis Cox, Carlisle, Iowa; sister, Wilma (Harold) Hutchins, Kansas City, Kan.; sister-in-law, Roberta Cox, Keosauqua, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents and brothers, Wayne, Warren and Walter Cox, step-daughter, Shirley Ohmart, and great-grandson, Jacob Cone, preceded her in death.
