James F. Hawbaker

The funeral service for James Fern Hawbaker, 70, Bonaparte, was held Monday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. in the Bonaparte Presbyterian church. The Rev. Edward Maus officated. Burial was in Spencer cemetery at Stockport. Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home, Farmington, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hawbaker died Friday, Dec. 25, at 7:15 a.m. in Van Buren County Memorial hospital, Keosauqua. He had been ill four weeks.

He was born Feb. 13, 1900 at Stockport, the son of Charles and Harriett Spray Hawbaker.

A retired farmer, he lived north of Mount Pleasant 17 years. He moved to Bonaparte in 1960.

He married Bernice G. Davis on May 22, 1925 at Marshalltown. She survives.

He was a member of the Bonaparte Presbyterian church, the Masonic Workman lodge and worked with Boy Scouts for several years at Stockport.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by one son, Jerry Hawbaker of Pontiac, Ill.; and one daughther, Mrs. Carl (Janet)Schultz of Davenport; three brothers, W. L. Hawbaker of Burlington, Tom Hawbaker of Fort Madison, and Elmer Hawbaker of West Point; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Warner of Stockport and Mrs. Leland Thompson of Fort Madison; and eighth (sp) grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
