W. Shott Birmingham Postmaster Is Dead
William R. Shott, son of Samuel B. and Alvisa Skinner Shott was born July 30, 1870, at Birmingham and died at 5:30 p.m. on Armistice Day, Tuesday Nov. 11, at Jefferson county hospital of a heart attack. He had been in the hospital since the previous Friday.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock at Catcott Funeral Home in Birmingham.
He was united in marriage on Dec. 8, 1896, with Elizabeth Glotfelty, who died May 31, 1936. To this union six sons were born. Max died in Montana July 28, 1935.
The surviving sons are Ralph of Birmingham, George, Frank and William Jr. of Montana, and John of Chicago. There are also four grandchildren; two brothers, Charles and Frank Shott of Montana; and one sister, Mrs. Vida Findley of Chicago.
His entire life was spent in Birmingham and nearly all of it in the same block. At the time of his death he was the Birmingham postmaster, having served at different times for a total of about 20 years.
He was a staunch democrat, taking an active interest in politics and had an extensive acquaintance in this part of the state.
His health had been failing for sometime but he had been able to go to the post office each day until quite recently.
