Lyon rites at Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM - Raymond R. Lyon, 63, Birmingham, died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday at University Hospitals in Iowa City where he had been a patient the past 20 days.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Birmingham Methodist Church with the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Military rites will be conducted at Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham by the American Legion.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. Memorials may be made to the Birmingham Fire Department.

Lyon had been a resident of the Birmingham Community since 1932. He had worked at the Condon Grain and Feed Co. in Fairfield for 21 years and also was employed at the Dexter Co. for 11 years.

He was a veteran of World War II and he was a member of the Iowa Horseshoe Pitchers Assn.

Raymond R. Lyon was born Oct. 13, 1919 in Woolson, the son of Robert and Valeria Snider Lyon. He was married to Arlene Steele April 21, 1946, in Fairfield.

In addition to his widow, Lyon is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann Pruden, Fairfield; Vickie Vorhies, Birmingham; Louise Stammerman, Des Moines; two sons, Robert and David Lyon, both of Fairfield; and a stepson, James Metcalf, Glasgow.

Other survivors include eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Verle Hall, Birmingham; Bernice Albaugh, Sigourney; and three brothers, Harold Lyon, Walcott; Bruce Lyon, Fairfield; and Max Lyon, Burlington.
