MISS DORA E. BURNS DIES IN CALIFORNIA

A former resident of Keosauqua, Dora E. Burns, passed away in Los Angeles, Calif. on Jan. 23, 1972 at the age of 96.

She was born and raised on a farm, east of Center Chapel. The family moved to Keosauqua, where she graduated from the High School. Following graduation, she taught for a few years in the country schools before moving to California in 1907.

He father was John W. Burns, who was the County Treasurer before an appointment to the Post Office as Post Master and Dora assisted him for a short period in this work until going to California for permanent residence.

Her sister, Mary E. Burns preceded her in death, late in 1971. Two brothers, Charles and Owen are also deceased.

Dora spent several years as head-bookkeeper in the bookkeeping department of the R.L. Craig Whole Sale Grocery Company in Los Angeles.

A niece, Myra Burns, who ably assisted the family in their late years, survives.
