Obituary
Died at his residence in Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, Iowa, Feb. 21, 1895, Alexander H. Woods, aged 86 years 6 months and 10 days. He was sick about one week, his death resulting from erysipelas. Deceased was born near Wheeling, Virginia, Aug. 11, 1808. When 8 years old he moved to Wayne county, Ohio, with his father's family, settling near Wooster, and in 1829 he moved to Constantine, Michigan. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Meek, Jan. 12, 1831. They came to Iowa in 1837 and settled on the place on which he died having lived there near 58 years. To this union were born eleven children, two sons, and nine daughters. Four of the daughters have died, leaving to mourn his loss his companion, two sons and five daughters, also 35 grand children and several great grandchildren. He was a (illegible) husband, indulgent father, a good neighbor and a good citizen. He experienced the privations of an early settler in this country, was diligent in business and accumulated considerable property. The funeral took place from his late residence on Sunday, Feb. 24, 1895, Rev. Geo. W. Barber, of Eldon, conducting the service after which his body was laid to rest in the Bonaparte cemetery. All his children were present at his funeral except the oldest son, William who resides in California.
