James B. Saylor

Two weeks ago as the Herald was going to press the word came that James B. Saylor, of Comfort, Texas, had died. The following account is taken from the Comfort News:

“James B. Saylor, aged 47 years, passed away at his home here Wednesday at 5 a.m., after an illness of some duration. The funeral was held from the home Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock, Rev. George Belsey conducting the services. At the grave the Comfort iLederstsfel[sic] sat two songs. The pall bearers were George Karger, Fritz Stieler, Anton Bohnert, F.M. Faust, O.P. Below, August Gombert. The funeral was largely attended and the floral offerings were beautiful. The Comfort school closed at noon Thursday, out of respect to Mrs. Saylor, who is a member of the faculty…

James Brown Saylor was born at Milton, Iowa, November 16, 1881. When he was but a young boy he united with the Presbyterian church of Lebanon, near his home. He is a graduate of Milton high school, and the college of engineering of the State University of Iowa in 1908. He was in Chicago for six months after his graduation from the university. Afterwards he went to Chickasha, Okla., where he was county engineer for Minkel county. He then went to Weatherford, Texas, where he was chief highway engineer. In 1910 he was married to Miss Mary Alice Fiesat at Des Moines, Iowa, and they went to Weatherford to make their home. In the fall of 1910 his health became impaired and then came to Comfort, where they have made their home since.

“Besides his wife he leaves two sons, James B., Jr., and Kenneth, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Saylor, of Milton, and one brother, Clarence of Waterloo. His mother, sister and two brothers preceded him in death.

“Mr. Saylor was a man of high character, attractive personality, and leaves a large circle of friends who join the bereaved family in morning[sic] his death.
