In Memoriam

Mattie Brown Hall was born near Lebanon, Ia. Oct. 18, 1871 and died at her home near Milton, March 5, 1896, aged 24 years, 4 months and 17 days. She was married to Mr. Charles Hall July 5th 1892. To them were born two boys, Loyd and Floyd, whose ages are 3 yrs. and 2 yrs. Sister Hall was converted and united with the M. E. church during the winter of 1888 under the labors of Rev. C. R. Norton. She was a most loyal member of the church of her choice and a devout and earnest christian. She loves the work of God and the services of her church. Her last sickness was only a few days duration. She had gotten up from an attack of the measles bur suffered a relapse which resulted in her death. She seemed conscious of the fact that she could not get well long before the friends about her were aware of it. So that when they approached her on the subject she at once gave specific directions about the care of her darling little ones, her desires for her loved husband, arrangements about her funeral services and burial. She talked as easily and calmly about all their things as if she was making arrangements for a pleasant journey. She had no fear or dread of death. To her father she said “Father I have tried to live right but have made some mistakes and sometimes stepped out of the way, but my purpose has been to live for Jesus, now I feel that all is well with me.” Again she said “I have often longed to see what heaven is like.” She had a loving message for the absent loved ones and peacefully folding her hands on her breast she sweetly and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus. “Jesus can make a dying bed, Feel soft as downy pillows are. While on his breast I lean my head, and breath my life out sweetly there.” The sympathy of the entire community is extended to these bereaved friends. May the God of all grace comfort them. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Saturday March 7th at 11 A.M. Conducted by the pastor, Rev. B. M. Boydston.
