MARGARET ELLEN DUNSHEE

Margaret Ellen Dunshee, daughter of Clark and Esther Peacock, was born near Lebanon, Van Buren county, Iowa, November 1, 1856, and passed away at the St. Joseph’s hospital in Ottumwa, Iowa, December 21, 1931, being at the time of her death, 75 years, 1 month and 21 days of age.

Left without a father when quite young, she prepared herself for a teacher, completing her education at the Troy Academy.

She then taught school in the public schools of Van Buren county for almost eighteen years and was a very successful teacher.

At an early age she united with the Presbyterian church. Always honest and upright, thinking of the comfort of others, she was greatly beloved.

On the third of December, 1891, she was united in marriage with James Allen Dunshee. To them two children were born, Forest Dunshee of Mt. Sterling, Iowa, and Mrs. Mary Swires, of Douds, Iowa. She also leaves to mourn her loss, one stepson, Dr. Jay Dunshee, of Pasadena, California; six grandchildren; two brothers, Mr. Henry Peacock, of Keosauqua, Iowa, and E.N. Peacock of Fairfield, Iowa; and three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Mort, of Keosauqua, Iowa, Mrs. Annie Boner, of Milton, Iowa, and Mrs. Lizzie Peacock of Burlington, Iowa, and a host of friends who cherish the memory of a loving friend and neighbor.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Mt. Sterling, Iowa, on Dec. 23, at 1:30 p.m., by her pastor, Rev. H.F. Gilbert, and the remains were laid away in the Perdon cemetery, at Keosauqua, Iowa.
