Younker Dies After Stroke
Albert Younker, 1118 Thirty-Eighth St., a nephew of the founder of the Younker department store, died Tuesday at Iowa Methodist hospital.
Funeral services will be at the Dunn funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at the Jewish cemetery at Woodland. Rabbi Eugene Mannheimer will officiate.
Mr. Younker was taken to the hospital Aug. 26 following a stroke.
Born in Iowa.
He was born in Bonaparte, Ia., the son of Joseph and Doris Younker. His father was a brother of Marcus Younker, founder of the Des Moines store.
Mr. Albert Younker came to Des Moines as a boy and was educated in the Des Moines public schools. He worked for a number of years in the department store but left to enter the clothing business for himself.
Business.
Among the businesses with which he was connected were the Dallas Co. and the Vogue shop. He had withdrawn from the clothing business at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Shrine; of Capitol lodge, A. F. and A. M., and of Temple B'Nai Jeshurun.
He is survived by five sisters, Jennie, Stella and Viola, who live at 1118 Thirty-eighth st.; Mrs. Helen Friedman, 5200 Shriver ave., and Carrie Younker at Philadelphia Penn.
