MRS. NELLIE DOOLEY
Nellie Leota Pearson, daughter of Phineas Amandus and Addie Jackson Pearson was born Dec. 22, 1872, near Keosauqua, Iowa, and passed away Jan. 7, 1953 at the home of her son Phillip and wife in Baltimore, Maryland at the age of 80 years and 16 days.
After her graduation from Keosauqua high school she spent several years as a teacher in the public schools of Van Buren co.
On March 24, 1904 she was united in marriage to William J. Dooley. To this union three children were born: Mary Leona, who passed away in infancy, Philip Leon and William Gordon. At the time of her marriage she assumed the role of mother to Hazel M. and Ruth E. Dooley, a part she nobly fulfilled.
At an early age she became a member of the Pittsburg Methodist Church, later transferring her membership to the Keosauqua Methodist Church. She spent most of her life in the vicinity where she was born. In May 1952 because of failing health, she went to the home of her son Philip and wife in Baltimore.
She was preceded in death by her husband Feb. 23, 1942, an infant daughter and a brother Leon E. Pearson.
Those who survive are her sons Philip L. of Baltimore, Maryland and William Gordon of Bismarck, North Dakota, two daughters, Hazel M. Brabbs of Guthrie Center, Iowa, and Ruth E. Verbeek of Oskaloosa, Iowa; seven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Florence Craig of Keosauqua, one foster sister, Mrs. Grace Clark of Chicago, four nieces, four nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Keosauqua Methodist church on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m., in charge of the Rev. Burton C. Bastucheck. Interment was at the Pittsburg cemetery.
