OBITUARY

Clark Henry Johnston, son of William and Rachel Johnston, was born in Dearborn county, Indiana, on Hogan Creek, Sept. 17, 1845.

His mother died Sept. 18, 1846. He then came to Iowa with his grand father Elhu Powell’s in the spring of 1847, settling two and one-half miles southeast of Lebanon. Three years later Grandfather Powell bought the William Brooks farm in Lebanon, his present home and moved to it in the spring of 1850 and living there until the time of his death, Feb. 13, 1926, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 26 days.

He was united in marriage to Emma J Bown, Dec. 30, 1875. To this union nine children were born: Alma J. Skinner of Kilbourne, Iowa; Florence R. Robertson of Tampa, Fla.; Craig W., Fern c., Harry B., Lloyd S., Earl A., all of Lebanon, Iowa. Eva E. dying in infancy and Mark D. dying at the age of two years and 10 months.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Emma J., seven children and twenty three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; also two half brothers, Torbett H. and James Johnston both living in Kansas City; two half sisters, Florence preceding him in death, Sallie now living in Aurora, Indiana.

He united with the M. E. church when a young man and was an active worker as long as health permitted, being superintendent of Lebanon Sunday school for 17 years.

Mr. Johnston was a quiet unassuming man, one whose love and kindness was unstinted when his loved ones or his friends and neighbors were sick or in trouble.
His passing away has left a vacancy which cannot be filled in the home or in the community.
The funeral was held from the M. E. church in Lebanon Monday afternoon, February 15th, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. H. F. Gilbert, of Milton, a former pastor; burial was in the east of Lebanon.

Following were the pallbearers: Active (six nephews) Walter Canfield, Emmett Canfield, Chester Brown, Paul Brown, Keith Brown.
Honorary - Ned Harrison, Joe Beeler, Curtis Wilson, John Burchett, Silas Humphrey and Frank Roush.

No love like parent’s love
Abide and endures
Faithful, unselfish
And loving like yours.

We sincerely wish to thank our friends who so kindly assisted us in our hours of bereavement, also for the beautiful floral offerings.
Mrs. Emma Johnston and children
