EMMA W. BRUCE

Emma Amanda Weyer, daughter of John A. and Susan J. Weyer, was born in Troy, Iowa, September 26, 1864, and died at the home of her son in Des Moines, Iowa, February 15, 1929, at the age of 64 years, 4 months and 19 days.

Her early life was spent in and near Troy, and she received her education in the Public Schools and the Troy Academy and taught school for a number of years.

While teaching she met Lorenzo Dow Bruce and they were united in marriage, March 4, 1885.

They were the parents of three children, Lynn L. of Des Moines, Iowa; Albert W. of Ottumwa; and John Francis, who died in infancy.

Mrs. Bruce is survived by a sister, Mrs. Dora E. Law of Troy, Iowa; two sons, Lynn l., Albert W. and five grandchildren: Robert, Matthew, Elizabeth, Albert Jr., and Mary Ethelyn.

Her husband preceded her in death November 24, 1926.

The deceased united with the Methodist church of Troy, Iowa, in early life and later transferred her membership to Keosauqua and Milton, being a member of the M. E. church at Milton at the time of her death.

She loved the church and her Savior and during her illness often expressed her desire for release from suffering and the reunion with the loved one gone before.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star at Milton, Iowa

To cheer us on Life’s way,
Not dead, but bloomed into Life,
Where Time is eternal Day.”

The funeral services were held at the M. E. church at Milton, Sunday, at 2 p.m. and were in charge of J. C. Caughlan, a former pastor, assisted by Rev. C. B. Rayhill, the present pastor. She was laid to rest in the cemetery at Troy, by the side of her husband who died some months previous.
