Omer Wilson was born in Dearborn county, Indiana, March 20th, 1836, and died at his home May 5th, 1919, age 83 years, 1 month and 26 days. He came to Iowa with his parents, Philemon and Sarah Wilson in 1851, who settled near Lebanon, Iowa, and has resided in the neighborhood in which he died during this time. He was married to Mary Ann Whetesel October 29th, 1857, who died May 28th, 1862. One daughter was born to this union, Mrs. Alice A. Pope, who is now a resident of Kimberly, Idaho. Mr. Wilson was again married to Cornilia Chisman of Wappelo [sic, Wapello] county, Iowa, February 21st 1866, who died November 8th, 1893. The following named children were born to this union and are living and residing in the immediate vicinity, except Arthur M., who resides just over the state line in Missouri. All were present at his death except one daughter, Alice Pope, James P. Wilson, Frank Wilson, Willie V. Wilson, Mrs. Nellie M. Abernathy, Arthur M. Wilson, Mrs. Clara B. Winn, Paul C. Wilson and Elmer L. Wilson.

Mr. Wilsoon [sic, Wilson] was a volunteer soldier during the civil war, having enlisted in Co. G 3rd Iowa Cavalry in 1863 and served his country faithfully until the close of the war being severely wounded at one time, he was considered a model soldier by his comrades. He was in deep sympathy with the boys who were in the late war with Germany.

Mr. Wilson previous to the civil war was a member of the Methodist church at Lebanon, Iowa, and while not for the past few years has been an active member of the church, he has lived a true Christian life.

He leaves to mourn their loss besides the children, three sisters, seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Six brothers and three sisters having preceded him.
