Emma W Simmons

Emma, daughter of John and Elizabeth Miller Wyer, was born Nov. -- 1859, on what is now the Frank Warner farm northeast of Bonaparte; and passed away at her home in Bonaparte Dec. 1, 1938, aged 79 years and 22 days.

She grew to womanhood on the home farm, attended the district school and emulated the example of her pioneer parents by being a real friend and neighbor to all who knew her. Her entire life was spent either in or near Bonaparte.

On Dec. 14, 1898, she was united in marriage with Mr. Thomas Logan Simmons. They first located on Vernon Prairie, then moved to Bonaparte about twenty-five years ago, Mr. Simmons died Nov. 29, 1931.

Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Methodist church of Bonaparte, Order of Eastern Star, and the Royal Neighbors Lodge. Of her immediate family Mrs. Simmons leaves to mourn their loss one sister, Mrs. Henrietta Warner of Bonaparte; and two brothers, Wm. Wyer of Lincoln, Montana and Frank Wyer of Pasco, Wash. Two sisters Mrs. Anna Baber and Sarah E Wyer preceded her in death. There are also two nieces and three nephews: Mrs. Myrtle Matlock and Mrs. Lizzie Thompson of Moline, Ill. Frank and Byron Warner of Bonaparte, and Marvin Wyer of Pasco, Wash. Also six great nieces and nephews and five great-great nieces and one great-great nephew.

Of her husbands children whom she considered her own there are one daughter, Mrs. Grace Smart of Milton, and two sons, Harley Simmons of Bonaparte and Roy Simmons of Farmington. There are ten living grand-children and one great grandson.

Mrs. Simmons found her greatest enjoyment in the young people of her family lavishing upon them the true devotion of a mother. Her neighbors too, meant much to her, and she was happiest when she could lend a helping hand. The end came without any special warning, she having returned home only a few days before from a visit with the daughter and family at Milton, and was seemingly in her usual health only a few minutes before she was called home.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Dec. 5, at the Methodist church of Bonaparte, Rev. L. E. Winfrey officiating. Interment in Bonaparte cemetery.
