Daniel W. Steinmeyer was born near Bonaparte, Iowa, October 4th, 1858. When a young man he went to Colorado to try his fortune and was beginning to make a success in a business point when he was stricken with mountain fever, he rallied from this when he took hemorrhage of the bowels and in one hour his spirit took it flight. He was married at Gothic, Color. December 18th, 1887 to Miss Josephine Crawford and removed to Fruita, Mesa C., Colorado, where he resided at the time of his death, October 27th, 1891, and he had just planned and set out a tract of land to fruits. Mr. Steinmeyer was pure and upright, ever ready to help his fellow man and was loved and respected by all. He suffered greatly through his sickness but was patient throughout. The end came swiftly but he was ready. The severest trial was leaving his beloved companion, mother and three brothers to mourn his departure. His remains arrived in Bonaparte Sunday morning at 2 p. m. and their condition was such that it was deemed best not to hold any services at the church or houses and about one o'clock p. m. they were followed to the cemetery southeast of Bonaparte, services being held at the grave by Rev. Deitz the pastor of the German Lutheran church of that neighborhood. The pall bearers were Tom Beard, Bert Smith, Wm. Wolf, Raymond Blackford, Wm. Marshall and Wm. Schmidt.
