SARAH J. CROWELL
Sarah Jane Crowell was born June 1, 1828, in Jefferson county, Ohio, and died in Keosauqua, Iowa, at the home of her brother, Thomas Hales, Friday, June 21,1901. She was married to George W. Crowell, Sept 12, 1840, at Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1856 they moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where they continued to live until the husband’s death. In 1876 Mrs. Crowell moved to Ottumwa where she made her home with a son until 1895, when she came to Keosauqua, her home being since then with the brother named. Five children were born to her, all of whom are dead. For some months previous to her death her health had been gradually failing, and for a few months before the end came it seemed she might die almost any hour. She was a member of the Methodist church nearly all her mature life, but took membership with the Congregational church a short time before she died. She is spoken of as a good woman by all her acquaintances. The funeral services were held by Rev. Perkins in this place on Saturday afternoon and that evening the body was taken to Ottumwa for burial by a daughter-in-law, who resides there. This obituary is likely from the Keosauqua paper.
