Sarah Jane Meek Leach 1840-1892

Died.

At her home in Milton, Iowa, Sept. 22, 1892, Mrs. Sarah Jane Leach, aged 51 years, 9 months and 29 days.

Deceased was a daughter of Robert and Mary Ann Meek, and was born in Bonaparte, Iowa, November 23, 1840. Here she grew to womanhood and was married to Joseph F. Leach, February 11, 1858. To them were born eight children, 5 sons and three daughters, two sons and one daughter died in infancy. There remains her companion, three sons and two daughters to mourn their loss; also two sisters and five brothers. She was an affectionate companion and a loving mother; a good friend and neighbor, and since the fall of 1857, a member of the Baptist church, with which she united under the pastorate of Rev. M. Sutton. Van Buren county has been her home most of her life where she has many friends. She died at Milton, Iowa, Sept. 22, 1892, from congestion of the brain. The funeral took place from the residence, September 24, 1892, Rev. Fillmer of the M. E. church, conducting the services.

The following persons were present at the funeral from abroad: Mrs. E. A. Sanders, L. C. Meek and family, R. E. Meek, Mrs. T. W. Boyer, Mrs. R. Flint, Miss Belle DeVoe, Miss Maggie Meek, Bonaparte; O. L. Meek and wife, of Des Moines, Geo. W. Barber, of Selma; D. C. Barber, of Denver, Ill., step brothers of the deceased.
