Arthur Endersby, born in Yorkshire, England, March 11, 1835, Died at Hillsboro, Iowa, January 30, 1918, at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 19 days.

He immigrated with his parents to Hillsboro, Iowa, when about six years old and lived within that vicinity practically all his life.

He was married to Ann Mary Smith, Nov. 15, 1856, who died May 18, 1905, at their home at Hillsboro, Iowa. Of this union twelve children were born, Susan Elizabeth Hixson, who died at Ramah, Colo., in 1905, Alvadous O., of Ukiah , Cal., Arthur E., of Santa Cruz, Cal., Ulysses S., of Maupin, Oregon; Vincin C., who died Sept. 19, 1887, Wm. R. of Whitetail, Mont.; Robt. L., who died in infancy, Lonzo D., of Forsythe, Mont.; Leonidas Z.; who died Oct. 17, 1895; Lorenzo N., of Whitetail, Mont.; Octava A. Page, of Hillsboro, Iowa, David B. who died April 1, 1903.

Mr. Endersby was one of those men, who, coming to this country when it was mostly new and uncultivated, helped to develop the country and in turn, was himself developed along the lines one would naturally expect.

Of sturdy English parentage he developed true to same, and breaking the raw prairies and bringing under control the natural resources of our great state, he developed a rugged character of the most sterling qualities. For integrity, big heartedness and purposes backed by forceful endeavor none surpassed him and few equaled him.

For many years he had been a member of the Christian church and was known far and wide for his generosity, this element of his nature being exercised to an extent that was many times imposed upon by those whom he befriended. Being a man of strong likes and dislikes, his friendship, once gained, was much prized for its steadfastness and cordiality.

His life was an active one and by endeavors previous to retiring from active work he had gained for himself one of Iowa’s finest farms over four hundered acres and had it well stocked and cared for and seemed to greatly enjoy living on and operating same. He assisted in the organization of the Farmers & Traders Savings Bank at Hillsboro, Iowa and was one of the directors of that institution from the date of its organization. His integrity of ......
