John Henry Schleeter
John Henry Schleeter, oldest son of John and Antje Schleeter, was born in Germany Dec. 7, 1863 and passed away Feb. 14, 1949 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ray Gates at the age of 85 years, 2 months, 7 days.
He came to this country with his parents when only a small child of about 2 yrears. They settled in McLean county, Ill, where he lived until his marriage to Amelia Schoenfieldt on Feb. 18, 1888, who passed away Oct. 3, 1919.
To this union was born five children, Minnie Davis, who passed away Feb. 7, 1920, William of Memphis, Mo., Emma Pender of Bonaparte, Lula Gates and Julius of Birmingham. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Anna Thedens of Rowley, Iowa, Mrs. Emma Klintworth of Anchor, Ill., three brothers, Louis of Colfax, Ill., William of Anchor, Ill. And Edward of Goshen, Ind. One brother August passed away four years ago.
He also leaves 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Four grandchildren having passed away.
He joined the Lutheran church when a young man. He lived for a time in Indiana, Missouri, two years in Colorado for the benefit of his wife’s health and the last 30 years on the farm where he passed away.
Funeral was held at the Zion Lutheran church near Douds Friday, Feb. 19, 1949, with burial near by. Pallbearers were Earl Hootman, Harry King, Lou Hootman, Nelse Ramsey, Ray Martin, and Wallace Plowman.
