Ellen Woods Glasscock.

Ellen Woods was born February 13, 1846, in Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, Iowa, being a daughter of the late A. H. and Elizabeth Woods.

On June 18, 1871, she was united in marriage with Eugene Glasscock and to them were born seven children all of whom are living excepting Jesse who died June 21, 1899, after a brief illness of cerebro-spinal meningitis, she being about sixteen years old at the time of her death. The others are Charles of Chicago, William of Ottumwa, Mrs. Edna Thomas of Mt. Zion, and Fannie, Alexander, and Annie who are still at home.

After her marriage she removed to the site of her late home, thence to the farm owned by Mr. Pickard, and from there to Bonaparte where she resided until 1896 when she returned to the home of her early married life, and where she lived until Friday, April 13, 1906, when her death occurred at the age of sixty years and two months.

She was sick but a few hours, having assisted with the housework in the early morning but soon became so indisposed that her physician was called, who prescribed for her. At about half past eleven o'clock she decided to go upstairs and lie down and immediately after doing so her husband called to her and getting no response went up to find that the faithful wife and the devoted mother had passed away.

She leaves besides her immediate family of six children and her husband, one son-in-law, Mr. Oscar Thomas of Mt. Zion; two brothers, William of Shasta county, California, and Robert of Bentonsport, Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth DeHart of St. Louis, Mrs. Sarah Edmondson, Mrs. Henrietta Leffler, and Mrs. Jesse Davis of Bentonsport; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Bonaparte Sunday at two o'clock P. M., Rev. Wehn of the M. E. church officiating, with interrment in the Bonaparte cemetery. She united with the Presbyterian church in February of 1897 and since that date had held her membership in that church.
