Killed By Freight Train
JEFF CRESAP
Jeff Cresap was killed near Cripple Creek, Col., Thursday, July 20. He was freight brakeman on a branch road running from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek and when the accident occurred the train was switching and was on a side track near Cripple Creek. It was night and he was at the rear of the train. Two cars were to be picked up.
He was seen signaling with a lantern, the cars were attached to the train and, seeing no more of his lantern, they supposed all was ready to go. The train ran into town a half mile away before Cresap was missed from his post.
When they returned to the place where he was last seen he was found on the tracks dead and terribly mangled, having fallen from and been run over by the train.
He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Cresap and was born in Bonaparte where he lived until about seven years ago when he went west. For the past three or four years he has been railroading.
The gried stricken parents reside at Selma and deeply mourn the loss of their youngest son.
Funeral services were held at Selma, Iowa, Monday morning at 10:30, conducted by Rev. Shane, with interrment in the Selma cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. John Cresap, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Cresap, Mrs. Henry Humphry, Mrs. Dr. Cresap and Mrs. R. E. Meek were relatives from Bonaparte in attendance at the funeral services
