Stoner Brumback Killed.
Memphis Reveille:
"On Monday relatives in this city were informed that Stoner Brumback, a former resident of this city, had died in a hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., from the effects of knife wounds received in an encounter with a footpad in that city, about ten days ago.
Stoner was a traveling representative for an axe handle company at Huntsville, Mo., and was in Minneapolis in the interest of the company when stricken down by the assassin. It is supposed that he had some money on his person, but when picked up in an unconscious condition it was discovered that his pockets had been rifled.
For three days the injured man was in an unconscious condition, but later rallied and for several days seemed to be improving, being able to write a letter to his wife at Huntsville. He wrote that he was getting along nicely and thought he would be able to come home on last Thursday and for his wife to meet him at Moberly. She went to that city and he did not come as expected. She remained there until Friday night and returned home. On Saturday a message was received stating that he had died. The supposition is his death was caused from blood poisoning and the improvement in his condition was of short duration and after a brave struggle he succumbed to the wounds.
Stoner was born and raised in Memphis and was an expert axe handle workman, always commanding a good position at big wages. For several years he has been employed in various mills in neighboring cities and at the time of his death was living in Huntsville, Mo., where he was engaged in the axe handle business with his brother, Sherman, and Milt Terrill.
The body of Stoner was taken to Fairfield on Tuesday and interred in the cemetery at that place."
Deceased was at one time employed at the Bonaparte handle factory and will be remembered by our people.
