Obituary of W. A. Winn

After three months of patient suffering, William Armstead Winn passed peacefully to his eternal rest Sunday morning, March 19, at 1:45 o’clock.

The deceased was born in Zanesville, Muskingum county, Ohio, Dec. 24, 1839. He was the third son of William and Mary Winn. On Sept. 29, 1868, he was united in marriage to Rachel A. Berger. This union was broken by the death of Mrs. Winn.

Later he was married to Anna McQuoid. To this union three sons were born; Walter C of Milton; Jesse L., of Centerville, and Chauncey C., of the State Hospital at Mt. Pleasant. Besides the wife three sons, eight grandchildren survive him. Mr. Winn lived on his farm near Lebanon for about forty years, and for the past fourteen years had resided in Milton. For over sixty years he had been a member of the Masonic order, holding his membership in Aurora Lodge of Milton, at the time of his death.

There were many admirable traits which characterized Mr. Winn’s life. His masterful self control, his reserve, his habit of looking at matters with his own eyes and forming his own conclusions, his sterling sense of right and truth, and his strong, manly, intellectual countenance, were and index of the soul within.

The funeral was held from the M. E. church in Milton Tuesday morning, March 21, at 10 o’clock, conducted by Rev. W. W. Whitman. The remains were laid to rest in the Lebanon cemetery. The Masonic order had charge of the funeral.
