Henry James Walter was born in Columbia county, Penn, January 14, 1841. He came to Illinois in 1850 returning again the next year to bring his parents with him to Mercer county, and on their arrival in Perryton township.
Mr. Walter enlisted in Co. A 30th Ill. And served one year and nine months in the war of the rebellion, being discharged on account of severe wounds received at the battle of Brittons Lane Tenn.
On February 24th, 1885 he was married to Mrs. Heather Crawford. To this union were born six children, Jennie Blanche Arthus who died in infancy, Hazel, Gladys and Charlie, their ages ranging from 1 to 4 years. Besides his wife and children he left to mourn his loss C.C. Walter of Duncan township; Geo. D. of Burlington; William and Dave of Nebraska, Mrs. Martha Tarr of Seneca, Kan.; and Mrs. Jennie Capp of Falls City, Neb.
Mrs. Walter moved to Aledo from Duncan township in 1889. For a number of years he acted as correspondent for the Muscatine News Tribune, and also the Reynolds Press.
His affliction is supposed to be softening of the brain and he had shown no signs of any mental derangement until recently. His conduct was only childish. He was taken to Watertown just a week ago, and died yesterday morning. His remains are expected to arrive here this evening. The funeral services will occur at the residence Thursday forenoon, at __o’clock, Rev. J.W. Edwards officiating. Interment will take place in the Millersburg cemetery.
