BENJAMIN HORNBAKER
Died at the home of his son, Martin Hornbaker, three miles southwest of Bonaparte, Thursday, May 31, 1894, aged 82 years, 7 months and 10 days.
Deceased was born in Bourbon county, Kentucky, October 21, 1811, and moved with his parents to Ohio when four years of age. In 1836 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Brower. Five children were born to this union, three of whom are dead. His wife died in February 1891. Two children, Martin Hornbaker and Mrs. Mary Meredith, both of this city and vicinity, survive to mourn the death of their father.
In 1846 deceased moved to Iowa and settled on the farm on which he died. Mr. Hornbaker was a good citizen, an honest, conscientious man, one whom the community will miss.
His death was caused by injuries received by falling from a wagon on the 29th ult. Three of the Hornbaker family met death by accident, a grand son, William Hornbaker, drowned in the Des Moines river, his son David was gored to death by a vicious cow.
The funeral occurred from the house Friday, June 1, 1894, Mrs. Fisk of Keokuk, officiating. The remains followed to the Thompson cemetery by a large concourse of relatives and sympathizing friends.
