Ola Walker 1859-1941

Mrs. Ola Walker

November 6, 1859-May 15, 1941 these dates mark the opening and the closing of a life well spent.

Oletta Cornelia McCullough, one of thirteen children of Andrew and Mary McCullough, was born near Mt. Moriah and passed away peacefully at the home of her son, Floyd A. Walker, in Los Angeles, Calif. At the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 9 days. She had been in failing health for several years but her condition did not become serious until three weeks before her death.

On February 15, 1883 she was married to Peter E. Walker of Libertyville and most of her life was spent in Van Buren county. Four children came to bless this union but the second child a daughter Elda, died at the age of two years. Mr. Walker passed away on August 14, 1911. Three children are left with the memory of Christian parents and a happy childhood in their home. They are Edgar Erwin Walker of Plainfield, Floyd A. Walker of Los Angeles, Calif., and Bertha Walker Morrison of Keosauqua. Mrs. Walker is survived by ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild, Alice Jean Walker of Plainfield.

She leaves five sisters and one brother: Mesdams W. H. Liming, John Miller, Wilson Rambo and C. W. Finney of Ottumwa, Mrs. J. W. Wainscott of Douds and J. W. McCullouugh of Geneseo, Ill., where a host of other relatives and friends who loved and respected this dear woman.

Mrs. Walker was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Keosauqua and a member of Lynds chapter No. 27, Order of Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held at the old Walker and McCullough home church at Mt. Moriah north of Douds, Monday May 19, 1941, at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Lloyd Tennant of North Liberty, had charge of the services. Special music was provided by Mesdames James Duffield and E. E. Marshall, accompanied by Mrs. James A. Craig.

The bearers were Kelsie Finney Henson Liming, Harold McCullough, Hollis Wainscott, Roy Beatty and James Duffield. Interment was at Mt. Moriah cemetery.
