Mrs. George Ellis.
Mrs. Ruth Ann Ellis, widow of the late George Ellis, died at Moulton Friday and was buried by the side of her husband Monday February 12. Mr. Ellis died a little more than two years ago, and a few months thereafter Mrs. Ellis removed to Moulton where a brother and perhaps other relatives resided.
Mrs. Ellis, whose maiden name was Ruth A. Gale, was born in Gibson county, Ind. Jan. 18, 1830, she being 82 years and 23 days old. She came to this country with her parents in an early day. Her mother was a sister of A. B. and J. C. McCrary. She was united in marriage to Mr. Ellis March 31, 1850. She lived in Vernon and Henry townships, this county, practically all her life until some eight or then years ago she moved with her husband to Keosauqua where she resided until after the death of her husband when she removed to Moulton.
When Mr. Ellis died he left his considerable estate to Miss Anna Glover, who was not related to him, but who had lived with Mr. and Mrs. Ellis many years and as they had no children, was like a daughter to them.
She had a slight stroke of paralysis Jan. 27 last but soon recovered. Mrs. Oliver Sargeant went to Moulton on a visit Feb. 5th, and states that Mrs. Ellis seemed to be enjoying good health Tuesday and was unusually bright. Wednesday morning after eating a hearty breakfast she was stricken with the second stroke before leaving the table. She was unconscious during the day and night, and Thursday she rallied several times but only for a few minutes. Thursday night she was much worse and Friday at 10:50 P. M. she passed away.
Her life like that of her devoted husband was an example for others. The world is better that they lived in it.
