Andrew Jackson Topliff was born in South Coventry, Tolland County, Conn, in 1832 and passed away at his home March 12, 1902. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Hattie Pratt in New York in 1877 and came west the same year and settled in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1880 they moved to Grinnell and have resided here since. Mrs. Topliff passed on before 1891, and on March 29,1894 at Montezuma he married Miss Minerva Hellyer the daughter of Hiram and Sarah Roush Hellyer of Van Buren County, Iowa who survives him. Before coming west Mr. Topliff was a member of the Congregational church and has always considered himself a member of that church. He lived and every day christian life, he was a good neighbor, a kind and true husband and a true friend. His brother who is the last surviving member of the family, was with him during his last hours on earth. The funeral was conducted from the house on wednesday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. E. M. Vitum and his body laid to rest in Hazelwood Cemetery.
