Minerva Hellyer Topliff was born March 1, 1858, at Douds-Leando in Van Buren County, Iowa and departed this life at the home of her half sister Cora Green Stringham at Ottumwa, Iowa; aged 50 yrs, 10 mo, and 28 days. Minerva was the daughter of Hiram and Sarah Roush Hellyer. When she was a small child her father Hiram died and on 12-3-1861 her mother Sarah Roush Hellyer married Cornelius Green. They both died before 1880. Minerva and her siblings lived with their maternal grandmother Mahala Roush in Chequest Township. Minerva was married March 1894 to A. J. Topliff of Grinnell, Iowa who preceded her in death 7 years ago. She was converted at an early age and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she lived an earnest and devoted member. She leaves to mourn her death, three half sisters and three half brothers. Funeral Services were conducted from the M. E. church at Douds-Leando Jany 19, by Rev; W. H. Jones. Interment was at Lebanon cemetery. The relatives of the late Mrs. A. J. Topliff desire to return their thanks to friends and neighbors for assistance and sympathy during her sickness and death.
