Mrs. Clara Koontz 1863-1946

Mrs. Clara Koontz daughter of Daniel and Amanda McComas was born November 2, 1863 and departed this life October 1, 1946, aged 82, 11 months and 1 day. She was the last of a family of seven children, three brothers and three sisters having preceded her in death.

Most of her early years were spent in the vicinity of Leando. She united with the Methodist church at Zion in her early years and continued that faith until her death.

On Dec. 3, 1884 she was united in marriage to Isaac Koontz. They lived on a farm three miles north of Lebanon until his death in 1909. To this union were born, four children; Mrs. Elizabeth Johnathan of Keosauqua, Mrs. Gladys Wilson of Birmingham; Allie of Wheaton, Illinois, and Rex of Milton. The last twenty six years of her life were spent in Keosauqua.

She also leaves a stepson Fletcher E Koonts of Memphis, Mo and twenty one great grand children.

Funeral services were conducted by the Reverend Treverton Warren at the Methodist church in Keosauqua. Interment was in the Lebanon cemetery.

Six of the grandsons acted as pallbearers; Harlan Johnston of Brighton, Sidney Johnston of Packwood, Clark Johnston of Ollie, Kenneth Wilson of Fairfield, Gene Hannam of Keosauqua and Ira Brown of Milton/

The burial was in charge of Burnetts of Keosauqua
