John Klise was born in New York state July 24, 1825, and died June 22, 1910, at his home near Utica, Iowa, aged 84 years, 10 months and 28 days. In the year 1851 he went to California and three years of his life was spent in the gold mines. He returned and was united in marriage to Esther Robbins and to this union was born one daughter, Delia. After his marriage he settled on a farm and 54 years was spent in a quiet and peaceful life. Two years previous to his death his wife preceded him to the Great Beyond.
There are left to mourn his loss the daughter, Mrs. Alonzo Nixon, one brother, George, of Stockport, Iowa, and two sisters, Julia Baldwin, of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Emily Huffman of Danville(?), Mo.
In all respects he was an honest and kind-hearted neighbor, and beloved by all who knew him.
Funeral June 23, at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Druse of Bonaparte at the new house built to replace one burned October 31, 1908, in which fire his wife lost her life. A large crowd attended the funeral and the remains were laid to rest in the Dibble cemetery.
