Gladys Margaret Brassfield Hales Dempster
Gladys Margaret Hales Dempster, 89 of Peoria, Ariz. died Nov. 30, 1996 at Good Shepherd Retirement Center in Peoria.
Born April 26, 1907, near Osgood, Sullivan County, MO. she was the daughter of John Reuben and Susie F. Rooks Brassfield. On Dec. 23, 1922 she married Ralph Watkins Hales in Vernon Township, Near Mount Sterling. He died Aug. 20, 1957. She then married John Gaylord Dempster on March 6, 1971, in Donnellson. He died Nov. 21, 1996.
Mrs. Dempster attended Farmington High School. She was a farmwife and homemaker. She worked as a cook at Harmony Schools and as a domestic in Fort Madison until becoming receptionist at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson.
Survivors include one son, Charles Eugene Hales of Sun City, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Janice Dempster Hales of Sun City, Ariz.; one daughter, Lela Margaret Troutman of Fort Madison; one stepson, John Lynn Dempster; seven great-grandchildren; two step great-grand children; and nieces and nephews.
Besides both husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
The funeral service for Mrs. Dempster will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hofbauer Funeral Home in Donnellson, with the Rev. David Pinkerton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Center Chapel Cemetery, Keosauqua.
