KEOSAUQUAN REPUBLICAN, 10 Dec. 1883

Died - Mrs. Geo. C. Duffield at her home in Keosauqua, IA at 9:50 PM December 9, 1883.

Mrs. Duffield, whose maiden name was Addie Stidger and a daughter of Dr. George A. Stidger, one of the oldest and best known physicians of Van Buren Co., was born in Carroll Co. Ohio in 1843. She united with the ME Church when 11 years of age, came to Iowa with her parents in 1855 and was united in marriage to her now bereaved husband March 18, 1867. Indications of cancer made its appearance about two years ago. This, with other complications attending it, finally resulted in her death though everything possible was done that medical evidence could do. She was the mother of four children, three of whom are living. As a wife, mother, neighbor, friend and Christian, Mrs. Duffield was a model. Her kindness of heart, social qualities and Christian spirit were demonstrated in her every day life and endeared her to all. Her presences in society will be sadly missed. She bore her intense suffering with Christian resignation and in her last talk with her pastor said she rejoiced that she had not put off preparation for death 'til her dying hour, for that now she had only her bodily sufferings to content with. Of her it may be truly said she died in the triumphs of living faith and has had an abundant entrance into the kingdom of God's dear Son.

A short service was held at her residence on Wednesday, December 12, conducted by Rev. James Hunter and her remains were followed to the Oakland Cemetery by a very large attendance of sympathizing friends. 'Tis the intention of her friends to have a more extended discourse at some time in the near future."
