GEORGE REISNER IS KILLED WHEN STRUCK BY CAR
-------
WAS WALKING ON THE RIVER BRIDGE AT FARMINGTON.
INQUEST HELD
-------
George Reisner died early Monday morning in a Keokuk hospital because of a broken back and other injuries received when he was struck by an automobile Saturday night on the river bridge at Farmington.

The car which struck Mr. Reisner was probably driven by Verle Allen of Bonaparte who was accompanied by Ira Warner. The young men say that they did not know of their car hitting anyone, but they do well remember of their eyes being blinded by the lights of a truck to such an extent while crossing the bridge that a part of their car struck the bridge railing. They did not stop.

Mr. Reisner was carried to the Marsh Service Station, and from there was taken to the St. Joseph's hospital in Keokuk by Harold Page and Dr. Coffin. Both legs were broken.

The Farmington bridge is narrow and quite dangerous for night driving. It is especially dangerous for pedestrians if there happens to be much traffic.

Mr. Reisner's age was 63. He is survived by three children. At the time of the accident he was walking across the bridge toward the home of his brother-in-law, Ed Von Seggen, west of town.

Coroner Harold Catcott made an investigation of the accident and called an inquest with jury. Members of the jury were S. O. Satterly, Frank Thews and Elmer Henshaw. W. B. Newbold was the coroner's attorney, and Mrs. Lola McIntosh was clerk. The verdict found that the deceased, George
Reisner, came to his death when hit by a car driven by Verle Allen but the opinion of the jury is that said Verle Allen did not see George Reisner or know that he had struck him.

Several witnesses were called, and the inquest continued for about four hours. The evidence showed that Mr. Allen knew he had struck something for the handle was broken from the door of his car and the fender damaged.

Mr. Allen said he had come to Farmington earlier in the evening and had gone to Farmington state park. He was returning from there to Farmington when the accident occurred.
